An intense, ruby red colour with aromas of leather and tobacco, along with notes of ripe black fruit and sweet spice. A well structured wine with a rounded, silky texture and a long finish.

The grapes are sourced from vines with an average age of more than 60 years old, surrounded by many rare species of native flora and fauna, to encourage biodiversity. Planted at 900 metres above sea level, the grapes ripen slowly, producing wines with a deep concentration of flavour.

The grapes were hand harvested and then were carefully selected using a sorting table. After destemming, they were lightly crushed before temperature-controlled fermentation was carried out. Maceration took place for around 30 days, before the wine was aged for 18 months in oak barrels. The wine was then aged for up to 36 months in bottle before release.

Viña Mayor is located on Ribera del Duero’s famous ‘Golden Mile’, just a stone's throw from Vega Sicilia. Founded in 1986, it was the first winery in Ribera del Duero to achieve ‘Wineries for Climate Protection' certification, thanks to its ambitious approach to regenerative viticulture. This has included restoring the natural biodiversity of their vineyards by reintroducing many rare species of native flora and fauna. As of 2022, 22 hectares of the estate have been certified organic, and the winery is run entirely with certified renewable energy, reducing CO2 emissions by 450 tonnes.
