Deep ruby in colour. On the nose aromas of juicy strawberry and red cherry are married with subtle spicy and toasty notes from the oak. Smooth on the palate with velvety tannins and a lifted acidity that carries the flavours onto the lingering finish.

The Tempranillo for the Viña Mayor Crianza is sourced from a range of vineyards across the four provinces of Ribera del Duero: Burgos, Segovia, Soria and Valladolid. The vineyards are located between 700 and 950 metres above sea level and benefit from a wide diurnal range at this elevation. Soils are a complex patchwork of clay, limestone, sand and gravel. The vines range in age from 20 to 60 years old and the vineyards are farmed following organic practices.

Upon arrival at the winery, the hand-harvested Tempranillo was destemmed and crushed. Fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures. Following fermentation, the wine was racked off the skins and transferred to French and American oak barrels for 14 months ageing before the final blend was assembled and bottled.

Viña Mayor is located on Ribera del Duero’s famous ‘Golden Mile’, just a stone's throw from Vega Sicilia. Founded in 1986, it was the first winery in Ribera del Duero to achieve ‘Wineries for Climate Protection' certification, thanks to its ambitious approach to regenerative viticulture. This has included restoring the natural biodiversity of their vineyards by reintroducing many rare species of native flora and fauna. As of 2022, 22 hectares of the estate have been certified organic, and the winery is run entirely with certified renewable energy, reducing CO2 emissions by 450 tonnes.
