A complex nose of ripe plum, boysenberry and cassis, with hints of cedar and vanilla. The palate is layered with bright black cherry and redcurrant fruit and structured with rich, ripe tannins and a long finish with spice notes.

Truchard's Cabernet Sauvignon vines are planted on several different sites on steep, south-western facing hillsides, which benefit from good sun exposure, as well as cooling fog. The vines range from 25 to 47 years old and produce concentrated wines with deep colour.

All the fruit was gently destemmed and crushed, then fermentation was started with selected yeast. During fermentation, pumping over was conducted twice a day. Maceration time varied from 14 to 30 days depending on the vineyard parcel. The wine was then aged for 20 months in French oak barrels (45% new) ahead of bottling.

A pioneer of the Los Carneros AVA, Tony Truchard’s story is one of remarkable perseverance and foresight. At a time when the area was largely overlooked, he recognised the potential Carneros had to produce remarkable cool climate wines. Today, Truchard’s vineyards, spanning the foothills of the Mayacamas mountains and Mount Veeder, are emblematic of the region and one of the few Carneros sites capable of perfectly ripening Cabernet Sauvignon.
