Terrassed vineyards located at 400 to 600 meters above sea level above the Bibei river, on steep slopes facing south, west and northwest. Shallow, acidic and coarse textured soils developed from granites (granodiorites, magmatic rock). Low fertility.
Organically farmed vineyards. Bushvines. Manual harvest in boxes. Native yeasts. Vinification and aging for 10 months in barrels and foudres of different sizes.
The 28 hectares of stubborn and difficult vineyards that form ´Ladeiras Do Xil´ is testament to our dedication to Galicia, an hommage to its history, its culture and of course, its wine.
Visionary winemaker Telmo Rodríguez has had a huge influence on the world of Spanish wine and can be credited with planting the seeds of the Spanish ‘New Wave’. For over thirty years, Telmo and his partner, Pablo Eguzkiza, have been on a winemaking odyssey to rediscover and revive Spain’s lost vinous heritage. In championing the country’s forgotten wine regions, lost traditions and near-extinct grape varieties, they have breathed life into Spain's winemaking culture and have invigorated a new generation of producers. As Telmo says "the future is in the past."
