A bright and zesty Rueda Verdejo. Aromas of lemon, lime and crisp green apple leap out of the glass and are complemented by subtle herbal nuances. On the palate the wine is crisp and clean, with a mouthwatering acidity carrying the flavours onto the fresh finish.

The Verdejo and Viura grapes for the 'Basa' are sourced from vineyards near the Rueda villages of La Seca, Serrada, Pozaldez and Foncastín. The high plateau here is at 700 - 870 metres elevation and the vines benefit from a wide diurnal range with cool nights counteracting the heat of the days. Soils are gravelly with a high limestone content, imparting a marked minerality on the wines. The vines are cordon trained on trellises and harvesting is carried out both by hand and by machine.

Upon arrival at the winery, the Verdejo and Viura grapes were gently pressed and the must was left to settle then racked off the sediments. Fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures to preserve freshness. Unoaked, the wine was kept in stainless steel for around six months before the final blend was assembled and bottled.

Visionary winemaker Telmo Rodríguez has had a huge influence on the world of Spanish wine and can be credited with planting the seeds of the Spanish ‘New Wave’. For over thirty years, Telmo and his partner, Pablo Eguzkiza, have been on a winemaking odyssey to rediscover and revive Spain’s lost vinous heritage. In championing the country’s forgotten wine regions, lost traditions and near-extinct grape varieties, they have breathed life into Spain's winemaking culture and have invigorated a new generation of producers. As Telmo says "the future is in the past."
