This is a textured and layered expression of Sauvignon Blanc, with notes of grapefruit, wet stone and hints of orange blossom and burnt lime. True to its name, this wine has a saline freshness to the finish, tempered by silky texture.

The Sauvignon Blanc grapes for 'Salt River' are sourced from five different vineyard sites across Stellenbosch. The majority of the blend originates from 38-year-old bush vines from the slopes of Bottelary, and is complemented by grapes from other trellised and bush vine plots. These lie on various aspects but share granite-rich soil types. Together, they produce the characteristic salinity of 'Salt River'.

Upon arrival at the winery, the fruit was sorted and pressed. The juice was fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks, concrete eggs, and old oak barrels, chosen to balance the variety's aromatics with a textural component. Following four months on its lees, the wine was then bottled and allowed to develop for a further two months before final release.

Duncan Savage spent 14 years cutting his teeth as winemaker at Cape Point Vineyards, creating profound, saline Sauvignon Blancs from true coastal sites. He produced his first vintage under his own label in 2011. Since then, he has developed a reputation for his thrilling, pure and age-worthy wines made in his urban cellar in Salt River.
