Les Vignes de L'Eglise Merlot Grenache IGP Côtes de Thau

Region: Languedoc-Roussillon, France

Vintage: 2024

Bottle size: 75cl

Grape: Merlot Grenache

ABV: 13%

This Merlot/Grenache blend is ruby red in colour, displaying perfumed and fresh aromas of ripe plum and cherry. Smooth on the palate, it has a medium-to-full body and supple tannins. This wine is juicy and extremely approachable, with a touch of spice on the fruit-driven finish.

The grapes for this wine are planted on red clay soils around the village of Pomérols, in the Picpoul de Pinet region of the Languedoc, in the South of France. This region benefits from a sunny, warm climate which encourages ripe flavours in the wines, while the coastal breezes help retain freshness and aromatics. Clay soils encourage richness and depth in the red varieties. The grapes are harvested at night to preserve the fresh, red fruit aromas and flavours and brought to the winery around 5am.

Both varieties were picked once they had reached the perfect level of maturity. Upon arrival at the winery the grapes were crushed and macerated on the skins for seven days, to ensure a good extraction of colour and flavours. Fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures of 17-24°C to retain the bright fruit character of th grapes in the wine. Unoaked, the wine remained in stainless-steel until bottling.

The Vignes de L’Eglise wines are made exclusively for Liberty Wines by Matt Thomson of Blank Canvas and talented winemaker Marguerite Vasseur, at the Cave de Pomérols co-operative in the Picpoul de Pinet region.
