The Muntacc displays the depth and structure of Nebbiolo while the addition of the Vespolina contributes to a deeper colour and delicate spicy notes on the nose. The wine is very expressive with elegant aromatics and a firm but balanced tannic structure, with beautiful freshness and great sapidity.
The `Muntacc` vineyard is located in the Coste della Sesia denominazione in the lower hill of La Prevostura estate. The vineyard is planted with 4500 vines per hectare and a south-west aspect. The vines are 15 years old, trained with the guyot system, and the soils are sandy with acidic pH. No weeding and no chemical fertilisers are used but only cover treatments which contribute to soil health and biodiversity of the vineyard
The grapes were picked and destemmed before undergoing spontaneous fermentation in open wooden vats with gentle pumping over for about 20 days of maceration. The wine was then aged in 15 hectolitres used oak barrels for 18 months, followed by 1 year in bottle before release.
When the opportunity to acquire La Prevostura came up in 2019, Luca De Marchi of Proprietà Sperino didn’t hesitate. This historic Lessona estate had previously belonged to the La Marmora family, who helped contribute to Italian unification in the 19th century. Having already run his family’s nearby estate for many years, purchasing La Prevostura gave Luca the opportunity to explore more of Lessona’s lauded vineyard sites.
