Pat’s Garden Merlot has always been a blend of predominantly Merlot with the addition of about 8%-12% Cabernet Franc. This ‘blend’ conveniently fell within the legal framework for a wine labelled as a single varietal wine ... ‘all wine may be blended up to a maximum of 15%’. So, they set about doing some exploration using 4 of the traditional Bordeaux grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc,  Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon...The result? A Bordeaux-inspired blend packed with cherries and exuding mint and a wisp of smoke

Ken and his wife Teresa set their hearts on a historic vineyard in Stellenbosch. They bought a beautiful farm and homestead in a public auction in 1993. a massive renovation was undertaken in the vineyards and home. The vision to improve the lot of employees by growing the business and thereby providing maximum job opportunities in a market that is desperate for support. They farm sustainably with no herbicides or pesticides, till by hand, hugely labour intensive, but very satisfying, prune, thin bunches and leaves all by hand and finally harvest by hand. This additional employment  goes some way to improving the quality of life in their community
