The wine is ruby in colour, with an abundance of cherry and cranberry fruit, complemented by complex herbal notes of tea leaves, thyme and rosemary, with hints of white pepper and finely structured tannins. The fruit carries on to the long finish with good acidity.
This single-vineyard wine is made from Arcos, a rare indigenous variety renowned for its long growing season, large, loose bunches and thick-skinned berries, producing wines with a distinctly Mediterranean character. The vineyard lies on the southern slopes of Penya Foradà and was planted in 1970 on sandy soils rich in iron, over fractured dolomitic limestone, a combination that contributes both concentration and mineral freshness to the finished wine.
The grapes were hand harvested and fermented as 100% whole bunches in concrete tanks using indigenous yeasts. Maceration lasted for approximately 28 days before the wine was gently pressed and transferred back to concrete for malolactic fermentation. It was then matured for 12 months in a large oak foudre, followed by a further six months' ageing in clay amphorae, enhancing both texture and complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit.
Born and raised in the small village of La Font de la Figuera, south of Valencia, Javi Revert has been a driving force in revitalising the area's winemaking culture, working with its wealth of old vines and local varieties. In the words of Ferrán Centelles (JancisRobinson.com): “Javi Revert represents the ultimate expression of the new Mediterranean style” producing “wines of striking freshness”.
