Grosset Piccadilly Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir

This Piccadilly Valley wine opens with fresh aromas of strawberry, red cherry and touch of raspberry fruits followed by a fine, silky palate with red cherry and raspberry flavours and subtle underlying oak. The finish is long, gently fleshy with supple tannins that linger.

The Pinot Noir comes from a single, south-facing vineyard in the Piccadilly Valley in the Adelaide Hills. The soils are predominantly mottled yellow, coarse-grained clays, and some quartz-rich soil over sandstone. In the early 1990s, Grosset was drawn to the intriguing high-acid fruit from these sites, the second coldest place in South Australia. In terms of quality, the rewards of working with such challenging sites have proved to be substantial.

Jeffrey Grosset’s love of Riesling began at 15 when his father came home with a bottle to share with the family. This bottle was enough to inspire a young Jeffrey to enrol in the local agricultural college and complete qualifications in both Agriculture and Oenology by the age of 21. After honing his craft in Australia and Germany, he bought an old milk depot in the Clare Valley town of Auburn, founding his eponymous winery in 1981. Since then, through great skill and exceptional vineyard management, this old milk depot has been transformed into one of Australia’s finest wineries.
