Graham's Single Harvest Tawny Port 1997
Graham's Single Harvest Tawny Port
Region: Douro, Portugal
Bottle size: 75cl
Grape: Port blend
This outstanding Vintage displays many of the aromas typical of Graham’s, including ripe plum and esteva (gum cistus). In spite of its youth it is has already achieved a wonderful smoothness on the palate. Graham’s 2000 Vintage is full and rich, with fresh blackberry and red plum notes. Despite the hallmark Graham sweetness in the mouth the finish is long and clean.
Graham’s wines come primarily from its own Quinta dos Malvedos near Tua and Quinta das Lages in the Rio Torto. Two others, privately owned by a member of the Symington family, Quinta da Vila Velha and Quinta de Vale de Malhadas, also supply Graham with finest quality grapes. All four Quintas are among the best in the upper Douro valley. Graham’s also buys grapes from selected farmers in the finest districts. Some of these farmers have been selling their grapes to Graham’s for generations.
Established in 1820, W & J Graham is one of the most famous names in the Port trade and has long been synonymous with the greatest Vintage Ports. The Symington family acquired the company from the Graham family in 1970, so today Graham’s remains a wholly family-owned firm
