The wine shows a deep ruby colour, on the nose an open floral bouquet underlined by ripe kirsch and morello cherry scents. The palate is firm and structured but offers elegant cherry pit character lifted by a youthful tannins.

The small lieux-dit 'En La Rue de Vergy' of just over three hectares borders direclty on to three Grand Cru vineyards 'Clos de Tart', 'Bonnes-Mares' and 'Clos des Lambrays. Virgile owns a 1.8ha planted in 1974 situated quite high on the slope right above 'Clos de Tart' where the limestone is quite close to the surface.

The Morey-Saint-Denis ‘En la Rue de Vergy’ is produced with 50-70% of whole bunches which ferment for 3 weeks without extraction. The are then aged in old barriques for 12 months, they never use more than 30% new oak to mature their wines, and finally spending four months in stainless steel vats before bottling.

Virgile Lignier took over Domaine Lignier-Michelot from his father in 2000, developing it into one of the Côte de Nuit's most respected estates. Neal Martin describes them as wines that “showcase the Morey appellation supremely well”, a reflection of Virgile’s meticulous approach in the vineyard and the cellar.
