The wine is showing a delicate purple colour, on the nose the strawberry aromas are lively but softened by gentle bay leaf notes. The palate is vibrant and delivers deep flavours of crunchy red berries laced with tea leaves finishing on young but elegant tannins.
The Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Cuvée Bertin’ hails from 1 hectare of vines from 3 liux-dits : Les Seuvrées, Es Murots and Creux-Brouillard. Most of it is coming from a parcel of 0.53 ha of vines planted in 1969 in Les Seuvrées which borders on to Grand cru Charmes Chambertin close to the Morey St Denis border.
The Gevrey-Chambertin ‘Cuvée Bertin’ is the only cuvée using 100% whole bunch, the grapes will be gently infused with the must without heavy extraction. After fermentation the wines are aged for 12 months in barriques, the total of new oak never exceeds 30% to enhance the purity of the fruit, and will spend the last four months in stainless steel before bottling.
Virgile Lignier took over Domaine Lignier-Michelot from his father in 2000, developing it into one of the Côte de Nuit's most respected estates. Neal Martin describes them as wines that “showcase the Morey appellation supremely well”, a reflection of Virgile’s meticulous approach in the vineyard and the cellar.
