Domaine Fabien Coche Meursault 2023
Domaine Fabien Coche Meursault
Region: Burgundy, France
Vintage: 2023
Bottle size: 75cl
Grape: Chardonnay
ABV: 12.5%
This wine displays the estate's signature balance and restraint, showing ripe orchard fruits with subtle floral notes and a fine mineral backbone typical of classic Meursault. The palate reveals excellent texture with gentle oak integration, offering depth without ostentation in the traditional Coche style.
The Chardonnay is sourced from two adjacent parcels high in the slope above the village of Meursault 'Les Luchets' and 'Les Chevalières'.
Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are directly pressed, the juice is fermented and aged in oak barrels (20% new) for 11 months on the lees. The different barrels are blended into a larger used oak vessel to settle for seven month before being bottled.
Fourth-generation vigneron Fabien Coche joined his family's Meursault domaine, Coche-Bizouard, in 1995, renaming it eponymously in 2020. The Coche family are an institution in Meursault, with Fabien’s cousin Raphaël now running Coche-Dury, which was part of Coche-Bizouard until the 1940s. Since taking over from his father, Fabien has built a reputation for making taut, precise Meursault from the family’s 12-hectare domaine. The domaine has been certified organic from the 2023 vintage and Fabien has practised organic farming since the early 2000s. Over half of the vineyards are over 60 years old and comprise eight hectares across various lieux-dits and 1er Crus in Meursault. These are split into 40 parcels, including a rare parcel of Meursault Rouge. The remainder are spread across nearby Côte de Beaune villages.
