The wine display a deep purple color. The nose opens with aromas of blueberry, blackcurrant and charred bell peppers with hints of eucalyptus. The palate is full and velvety, supported by soft tannins and a fine balance between sweet spice and bright freshness.

‘Les Poyeux’ is Caroline and Herve’s first single-vineyard Saumur Champigny. They own 1.8 hectares of ‘Les Poyeux’ located in the commune of Chacé. ‘Les Poyeux’ is one of the Loire’s most famous red-wine sites, world renowned as one of the coveted Clos Rougeard cuvées. The vines were planted in the 1950s on deep silica-limestone soils, green sand and tuffeau that result in elegant wines with ripe flavours and velvety tannins.
The grapes were hand harvested and transferred into stainless steel tanks by gravity. Following a 20 day period of maceration, the wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts. Sulphite levels were kept at a minimum and ‘Les Poyeux’ was then aged for about 16 months in barrels and lightly filtered prior to bottling.

Caroline Meurée and Hervé Malinge are a young winemaking couple who met while studying in Bordeaux. Despite neither being from the Loire Valley, in 2019, they bought Domaine des Sables Verts in the heart of Saumur-Champigny and embarked on their first vintage. Domaine des Sables Verts comprises 16 hectares of organically farmed vineyards, spread across Varrains, Chacé, Saumur, Souzay-Champigny and Parnay. 15 hectares are planted with Cabernet Franc and just one with Chenin Blanc. These vineyards sit on deep, clay-limestone soils, rich in tuffeau and a green sand known as ‘sables verts’. It was this soil type that inspired the domaine’s name.
