A deep garnet colour. The nose is delicate, dominated by violets, simmered cherries and notes of allspice. The palate starts fresh, then develops into a smooth texture, followed by tight tannins and supported by a long and fresh finish.
Julien has 26 hectares of vines, which are up to 100 years old and lie at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail. This cuvée is made from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Clairette grown exclusively on the high-altitude limestone marl surrounding les Bosquets.
Plots are vinified separately with partial whole bunch fermentation, the grapes are gently crushed and then transferred into the vat using gravity. Low extraction at the start of fermentation, followed by daily manual punching down. Ageing is done separately for the first 12 months using 228l barriques for Syrah and a mix of 400l, 500l and 600l oak barrels for the rest. The wine will aged for an other year in concrete tank after the final blending.
Described by Jeb Dunnuck as “the Chambolle Musigny of the Rhône”, Domaine des Bosquets is today run by Julien Bréchet. Since taking over the family domaine in 2006, Julien has made a name for himself as one of the rising stars of Gigondas, with Josh Raynolds asserting that Julien “has quickly climbed to the top tier of not just the Gigondas quality ladder, but that of the whole Rhône Valley
