On the nose, the wine shows aromas of dark berry fruit and plums mingling with aromas of smoked tea, black truffles, loamy soil and Indian spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied, layered, concentrated and textural, with powdery structuring tannins cloaked in an ample core of fruit.
Vosne-Romanée is home to some of the most precious and rare wines in the world. The southern border of the famous Grand Cru "La Tâche" (monopole of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti) is called "Aux Malconsorts" which may indicate a troubled history of ownership with court battles to assert or defend the ownership of this magic place. An appellation which covers 5.86 hectares that benefit from the altitude, exposition and a soil type very similar to its illustrious neighbour. Domaine de Montille owns two parcels of "Les Malconsorts". ''Aux Malconsorts - Christiane", named after Hubert's wife, comes from a 0.49 parcel which is located separately from Aux Malconsorts, on the northern and western borders of La Tache. The wine has a superior ageing potential. The Domaine has practised organic viticulture since 1995 and was certified organic in 2012. Since 2005 it has also converted to biodynamic viticulture.
Founded in the mid-18th century, this family-owned estate is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or, with ninth generation Etienne de Montille now at its helm. Etienne inherited this responsibility from his late father, Hubert, who took over the domaine when it had shrunk from 12 to just 2.5 hectares. Previously, the family had sold off vineyards in Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Chambolle-Musigny. Hubert’s tenure lasted a staggering 50 years. While 90% of the region’s production was sold to négociants, he gained fame for his estate-bottled, long-lived and characterful wines.
