It is pure gold, sparkling with the brilliant radiance of the hours of sunshine that matured and over-matured the grapes until they became roasted like raisins. This nectar runs slowly down the glass, rich, oily, and as languid as a cat basking in the sun.  The bouquet is dominated by flavours of exceptional over-ripeness : fig, date, mango, quince, orange, candied grapefruit, honey, beeswax, royal jelly. A sweet, almost liqueur wine, with an impressively high residual sugar content, yet with a softness and harmony that is very seldom found in this kind of dessert wine.

These wines made from single berry selection of overripe and shrivelled grapes picked one by one and produced in the greatest years only. The action of noble rot (botrytis cinerea) gives them an almost unlimited ability to age. They are part of the elite of the greatest wines in France.

Famille Hugel owns an estate of 30 hectares of prime sites around the historic and picturesque town of Riquewihr in the heart of Alsace, where vineyards have been cultivated for more than 2,000 years, bringing wealth and prosperity to the region’s inhabitants. More than half of these vineyards are classified as Grand Cru: the Schoenenbourg, known for its Riesling, and the Sporen for its Gewurztraminer. All grapes are, and always have been, picked by hand. The Hugel estates are exclusively planted with the noble Alsace grape varieties and the vines have an average age of 35 years.
