Complex with ripe red fruits, figs, ripe plum skins and sweet spices. Decidedly full-bodied, with everything kept exceptionally fresh with the trademark crushed-stone minerality one expects from Santorini wines. Incredible length and balance. A special wine.

Mavrotragano is an indigenous grape variety of Santorini. Traditionally it had been used in small quantities in the blends of sweet red wines and thus there was only a small number of old vines left. Domaine Sigalas believed in the high quality of this variety and as of 2002, we have planted an experimental Mavrotragano vineyard of high density ( 5.500-7.500 plants per acre). Winemakeing is done solely by hand, and is aged for 18 months in new and old French oak barrels.

Paris Sigalas is the pioneering winemaker who applied mathematics and other innovative ideas to oenology and viticulture to elevate Santorini’s wines to international stardom. The 1991 Santorini is his maiden vintage, the first wine to be labelled Protected Designation of Origin, marking the start of operations at Domaine Sigalas.
