Intense purple in colour, this wine displays aromas of fresh blackberries with hints of cinnamon and toast from time in oak. The palate is rich and well balanced, with a concentrated fruit flavour and vivid but integrated tannins. A powerful wine that can be approached now but also has excellent ageing potential.

Situated in the north of the small village of Saint-Lambert, the Château Montgrand-Milon vineyard benefits from a prime location among the most reputed estates of the Pauillac appellation. The vines, which are over 50 years old, are planted on the deep knolls of Graves with a north-west facing aspect which gives them good sunlight exposure. Due to the vineyard’s proximity to the river, it also benefits from its own microclimate. Soils consist of gravel and sand and vines are planted at a density of 10,000 per hectare. Trellising is double-cordon trained with all harvesting done by hand.

Fruit for the Château Montgrand-Milon Pauillac was harvested by hand. The fruit is sorted twice, once in the vineyard, and once upon arrival at the winery. Fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks at controlled temperatures. The wine was then aged for 12-15 months in French oak, 15% of which was new.

Château Montgrand-Milon is produced at Château Fonbadet, a Pauillac estate close to the banks of the Gironde River. The property was part of Château Latour from the Middle Ages until the beginning of the 20th century, when it was purchased by its current owners, the Peyronie family. As a result, the vineyards (aged over 50 years old) are located close to Château Latour and Château Mouton-Rothschild. Planted at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare, on gentle slopes with gravel and sandy soils, the vines are double-cordon trellised and hand-harvested.
