Chateau de Vaudieu Clos du Belvedere Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc

Region: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhone, France

Vintage: 2021

Bottle size: 75cl

Grape: Grenache Blanc

ABV: 14%

This wine is pale gold with green highlights. The nose is pure and precise with aromas of grapefruit, cashew nut and white nectarine. On the palate, discrete oak, vivid fruit and a refreshing salinity are framed by the wine’s revitalising acidity and rich texture. The finish is long and layered. The 2021 vintage has exceptional ageing potential.

Ten hectares of the estate are planted with white varieties, of which Grenache Blanc makes up around 30%. The fruit for this particular cuvée is sourced from the estate’s best plot of Grenache Blanc. The vines are on average 43 years old and planted on one of the highest points of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape plateau. This location, combined with galet roulés and red clay soils, produces an intense and concentrated, yet elegant expression of Grenache Blanc.

The Grenache Blanc grapes were harvested and sorted by hand and packed into small crates in the cool early morning to retain optimum quality and freshness. The bunches were gently pressed in a pneumatic press and the must was left to settle in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation took place in used 500L French oak barriques, and the wine was then aged for nine months in oak, resulting in additional aromatic and textural complexity.

The 18th century Château de Vaudieu has been in the Bréchet family for over 50 years and today is run by Laurent Bréchet, the grandson of the original owner. The name ‘Vaudieu’ originates from ‘Vallée de Dieu’, or ‘Valley of God’ – in reference to the beauty of the area around Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
