Region: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhone, France

Vintage: 2021

Bottle size: 75cl

Grape: Grenache

ABV: 14.5%

On the nose, this wine has aromas of raspberry, mint, liquorice and black tea. The palate is full-bodied yet boasts a lovely freshness and silky tannins, typical of old vine Grenache on sand.

The Grenache Noir for L’Avenue is sourced from one of the estate's best single vineyard plots, which is situated at the top of one of the hills of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The vines are 53 years old on average and are planted on sandy soils, resulting in excellent finesse and freshness in the finished wine.

The grapes were harvested and sorted by hand. On arrival at the winery they were destemmed and crushed, then placed in open top concrete tanks. Fermentation took place at around 25°C and lasted approximately 30 days, with punch downs and pump overs, for integrated and structured tannins. The wine was then aged in 600L demi-muids for 18 months.

The 18th century Château de Vaudieu has been in the Bréchet family for over 50 years and today is run by Laurent Bréchet, the grandson of the original owner. The name ‘Vaudieu’ originates from ‘Vallée de Dieu’, or ‘Valley of God’ – in reference to the beauty of the area around Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
