Youthful, ruby-cherry in appearance, this wine has bright, clean aromas of classic cherry and almond blossom. It is best served lightly chilled to enjoy the vibrant black cherry character, which is supported by supple, approachable tannins and a flavoursome finish

The grapes for the Valpolicella are grown on the steeply terraced hillside vineyards around Verona belonging to the co-op. Here soils are made of marl and limestone. The vineyards are located 250 - 300 metres above sea level and the vines are Guyot trained.

The grapes were destemmed and crushed on arrival at the winery. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled, stainless-steel tanks between 22-28°C followed by maceration lasting for eight days. The wine was then transferred in concrete tanks until bottling to retain its natural freshness.

Run by Luca Degani since 1995, the Cantina Valpantena is now one of Italy’s best co-operatives, with 650 hectares of vineyards that produce excellent quality fruit. Matt Thomson (of Blank Canvas in New Zealand) makes some of the Alpha Zeta wines here and has worked closely with the Cantina since 1999, and with head winemaker Michele Peroni since 2013
