Layers of pepper spice, dried herbs, dalkberries and juicy plum. Fine grained tannins and black olive tapenade notes on the palate.
All grapes were hand picked at optimal ripeness and brought to the cellar in 500kg bins. Here they were destemmed and berries were sorterd on the vibrating sorting table. The sorted grapes were then transferred to the fermentation tank with a mobile receiving tank. Cold soaked for 3 days at 10 degrees. Inoculated after 3 days with fermentation lasting another 10 days. The must was pressed and the wines stored in older barrels for 9 months

Bonded by decades of friendship and an appreciation for the raw ruggedness of place, our grapes are sourced from three distinct sites: Adi Badenhorst owned Kalmoesfontein and Jakkelsfontein in the Swartland, and the du Bois family Koplandsteen from Bottelary, Stellenbosch. These are unpretentious places previously overlooked by many, yet, under the hands of these real sout van die aarde farmers, have been coaxed onto the world stage as sites for phenomenally fine wines.
