Massolino Barolo Margheria

Region: Barolo, Piedmont, Italy

Vintage: 2019

Bottle size: 75cl

Grape: Nebbiolo

ABV: 14.5%

This Barolo is traditional in style yet fresh, structured and accessible. The grapes come from different subzones in Serralunga, resulting in a wine with a broad and variable spectrum of aromas, ranging from tempting spicy notes to sweet, more floral and fruity notes. Robust tannins and acidity are balanced by the fragrant fruit character of the Nebbiolo.

The 1.7 hectare Margheria vineyard is at an altitude of 340 metres above sea level. The soil is predominantly limestone with a fair percentage of sand that gives the wines elegance. The vines are 25 years old on average and are Guyot trained, with 5,300 vines per hectare.

This 23 hectare estate has been in the Massolino family since 1896. In recent years, the style of the wines has undergone a subtle transformation. Winemaker Franco Massolino has done a wonderful job of marrying change with a respect for tradition, something that sets Massolino apart from many of the younger producers in Barolo today. The vineyards, with vines up to 60 years old, are in the commune of Serralunga d’Alba
