Elegant and distinctive with red fruit on the nose floral notes and a hint of leather and tobacco on the finish. The wine is beautifully balanced with firm but well integrated tannins and a complex persistent finish.
The vineyard is planted with 4500 vines per hectare and a south-west exposure. The vines are 20 years old, trained with the guyot system, and the soils are sandy with acidic pH. No weeding and no chemical fertilisers are used but only cover treatments which contribute to soil health and biodiversity of the vineyard.
The grapes were picked and destemmed leaving 50% of them uncrushed. Spontaneous fermentation took place in cement vats with pumping over and punch downs for about 25 days of maceration. The wine was then aged in 500 litre tonneaux, 25% of which new oak, for the first 6 months, followed by 18 months in 15 and 20 hectolitres second use barrels, and then 2 years in bottle before release.
When the opportunity to acquire La Prevostura came up in 2019, Luca De Marchi of Proprietà Sperino didn’t hesitate. This historic Lessona estate had previously belonged to the La Marmora family, who helped contribute to Italian unification in the 19th century. Having already run his family’s nearby estate for many years, purchasing La Prevostura gave Luca the opportunity to explore more of Lessona’s lauded vineyard sites.
