This wine has an expressive nose with aromas of cherries, herbs and juniper. On the palate it shows rich ripe tannins balanced by a vibrant acidity and a rich structure. It has long and persistent aromatic finish.

All of the grapes for this Brunello come from vineyards on the estate: Rennina, Sugarille and a nine-hectare vineyard located in Torrenieri, to the north east of Montalcino. Soils are a mix of clay, tufa and sand, while the soils in Rennina and Sugarille are richer in limestone and galestro. The average age of the vines in Sugarille and Rennina is 40 years, while in Torrenieri the vines are younger.

Nestled in the heart of Montalcino, this 27 hectare property sits at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level, neighbouring Fossacolle and Case Basse. It was purchased by Angelo Gaja in 1994 – his first foray outside his native Langhe. It took Gaja a while to bring the wines up to the level of quality he consistently achieves with his Piemontese wines, but today his Brunellos from Pieve Santa Restituta rank with the finest in Montalcino.
