Region: McLaren Vale, South Australia

Vintage: 2019

Bottle size: 75cl

Grape: Cabernet Sauvignon

ABV: 14.5%

A complex array of aromas, including tobacco, dried herbs, crushed rock and dark chocolate. Medium-bodied, the palate has great weight and texture, with succulent blackcurrant, black cherry and earthy characteristics. The juicy acidity complements the savoury, dusty tannins.

The fruit comes from 20-year-old vines planted at the southern end of McLaren Vale, about 4km east of the coastal town of Port Willunga. At 25 metres above sea level, the soils are heavy grey loam mixed with black Biscay clay and sit above ancient Gnaltinga formation bedrock. Strong vine growth is tempered by dry summer winds and cooling afternoon sea breezes, allowing the grapes to develop pure, bright and savoury fruit flavours.

McLaren Vale-based Mitolo is a family-owned winery established in 1999 by Frank Mitolo, whose Italian roots inspired his early interest in, and enthusiasm for, good food and great wine. Winemaker Ben Glaetzer became a partner in the business in 2001. The fusion of Frank’s knowledge of the land and business acumen with Ben’s winemaking talent has resulted in Mitolo becoming one of Australia’s most awarded wineries. From the approachable ‘Jester’ range to the premium wines that wow the critics, Mitolo has made a name for itself as one of the Australian producers to watch.
