In 2021, fruit was sourced from the Awarua Vineyard, one of Kim Crawford's newest vineyards, which was also the star of the Spitfire 2020 vintage. Just eight years ago this was rich dairy farming land at the mouth of the Wairau Valley. The soils are heavy silts that provide a large, healthy vine canopy, and the six-year-old vines are trained to Vertical Shoot Position (VSP).\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\" class=\"MuiTypography-root accordion_paragraphSection__1ygi6 MuiTypography-body1\"\u003eKim Crawford Wines was established in late 1996, when Kim and Erica Crawford launched two wines made from fruit grown in Marlborough. The Crawfords sold the company to Constellation in 2005 and subsequently handed the reins over to the Constellation winemaking team, led by chief winemaker Anthony Walkenhorst, who had trained under Kim. Despite Kim Crawford no longer being involved with these wines, the current winemakers and viticulturalists continue the classic Crawford philosophy and style.
