Hugel Grossi Laue Pinot Noir

Region: Alsace, France

Vintage: 2014

Bottle size: 75cl

Grape: Pinot Noir

ABV: 13.5%

A nice and profound colour with a bright and youthful base, a very nice density for this youthful Pinot Noir grape with a good tannic and anthocyanin presence, ruby red, the intense garnet colour of morello cherry and an added hint of purple. The legs are dense, consistent, regular and sparkling with vitality. The aroma is complex and generous, very expressive and open, with the hints of small red fruit so typical to a healthy and perfectly ripe Pinot Noir grape. Raspberry, strawberry, morello cherry, black-current, cranberry, hawthorn blossom, black cherry with a nuance of vanilla, wood-smoke, violet, and hawthorn blossom. The aroma is harmonious and full.

Grossi Laüe signifies the finest vineyards in Alsace dialect and represents an equivalent to the German Grosses Gewächs or the Burgundian Grand Cru.

Famille Hugel owns an estate of 30 hectares of prime sites around the historic and picturesque town of Riquewihr in the heart of Alsace, where vineyards have been cultivated for more than 2,000 years, bringing wealth and prosperity to the region’s inhabitants. More than half of these vineyards are classified as Grand Cru: the Schoenenbourg, known for its Riesling, and the Sporen for its Gewurztraminer. All grapes are, and always have been, picked by hand. The Hugel estates are exclusively planted with the noble Alsace grape varieties and the vines have an average age of 35 years.
