This powerful wine boasts aromas of ripe, rich stone fruits with a touch of vanilla. On the palate, the flavours are concentrated and complex, with notes of vanilla, white flowers and toast supported by an elegant minerality, which lingers on the finish.
Situated in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet is home to arguably some of the world's greatest white wines. The fine, broad hillside brings out the very highest expression of Chardonnay. The soils are characteristically Burgundian, with a high content of limestone.
Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi (formerly Château de Santenay) was once the stately home of the first Duke of Burgundy, Philippe le Hardi, who received his duchy from his father, the King of France. Philippe is famous for banning the cultivation of Gamay in the Côte d’Or, saying in his edict of 1395 that only Pinot Noir could be used in the production of red wines from the already fabled slopes.
