Bright, pale golden in colour, this Chardonnay is powerful on the nose with notes of white peach, mango, grapefruit, lemongrass and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, this wine is round, balanced, long. with lots of freshness. It's lively, expressive, elegant with a very delicate toast note.
Situated in the commune of St. Aubin, this single monopole vineyard lies on a south-south-west facing hillside, very close to the Château's "En Vesvau" plot. The soils consists of light clay and sand on top of a limestone fault. The Chardonnay vines benefit from perfect drainage conditions, resulting in the production of elegant white wines.
Domaine du Château Philippe le Hardi (formerly Château de Santenay) was once the stately home of the first Duke of Burgundy, Philippe le Hardi, who received his duchy from his father, the King of France. Philippe is famous for banning the cultivation of Gamay in the Côte d’Or, saying in his edict of 1395 that only Pinot Noir could be used in the production of red wines from the already fabled slopes.
