Boarding a simple three-masted barque they left Plymouth and began the long and arduous journey to Australia, arriving in Port Adelaide. From there they trecked north to Angaston where Samuel took a job as a gardener. It was arguably this brave decision to start a new life in a remote and distant land, together with the hardship that they endured, that formed the strong sense of family unity that has been the bedrock of the family business ever since. In 1849 he started the wine farm that would grow over the next 5 generations to become one of Australia’s leading wineries, with a winemaking culture that is internationally recognised and respected. To embrace the native culture, Samuel decided to adopt a local name for his farm, calling it “Yalumba” meaning “all the country around’’ in the indigenous Peramangk language.

https://www.yalumba.com

Peter Lehmann Masters Wigan Eden Valley Riesling

Region: Eden Valley, South Australia

Vintage: 2016

Bottle size: 75cl

Grape: Riesling

ABV: 11%

Delicate in colour with youthful highlights, and a soft aroma of lime and floral notes combined with toasty characters. Without this deal, it is widely believed that the Barossa would have lost a large swathe of its old vines. The crisis passed, in large part thanks to Peter’s energy and vision, and the Lehmann winery became one of the Barossa’s, and Australia’s, most outstanding wineries. It was for his role as saviour of the Barossa and as the creator of this winery, that Peter was named ‘Personality of the Year’ by the International Wine Challenge in 2009.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0506/5405/2509/files/PeterLehmannMastersWiganEdenValleyRiesling.jpg?v=1715425578
f-e-trimbach-riesling-reserve-2022
F E Trimbach Riesling Reserve 2023

F E Trimbach Riesling Reserve

Region: Alsace, France

Vintage: 2023

Bottle size: 75cl

Grape: Riesling

ABV: 13%

Fresh, vibrant Alsace Riesling, ultra dry yet full of grapefruit, citrus and white peach and exhaling white flowers and lemon perfume.

The Reserve quality comes from a rigorous selection of fully ripe grapes from the Ribeauvillé and Hunawihr region. Maison Trimbach’s vineyards are all situated around Ribeauville (Ribeauville, Hunawihr, Bergheim, Rorschwihr, Riquewihr and Mittlewihr). They benefit from the unique Alsatian microclimate, thanks to the Vosges Mountains protection, which preserves the plain from the rain. The vineyards were planted on the Ribeauville’s fault line that fractured 50 million years ago between the Vosges Mountain range and the Black Forest offering a mosaic of terroirs including the complex calcareous limestone and bio-degraded seashell fossils called “Muschelkalk”.

https://www.trimbach.fr

Domaines Schlumberger Riesling Grand Cru Saering

Region: Alsace, France

Vintage: 2021

Bottle size: 75cl

Grape: Riesling

ABV: 13%

The colour is pale yellow with clear reflections of good intensity.

Grosset Alea Clare Valley Riesling

Region: Clare Valley, Australia

Vintage: 2023

Bottle size: 75cl

Grape: Riesling

ABV: 12.5%

Pale in colour, the nose boasts pristine lemon and blossom aromas. Naming her range of wines after a historic Marlborough mustering hut, the ‘Tinpot Hut’ links the area’s sheep farming past with its current state as one of the world’s most dynamic wine regions. Fruit is sourced from Fiona’s ‘Home Block’ and is supplemented by grapes from selected vineyards. Fiona is assisted by Matt Thomson, a friend and colleague with whom she has worked for many years.

https://www.tinpothut.co.nz

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0506/5405/2509/files/TinpotHutWairauValleyMarlboroughRiesling.jpg?v=1782913427
two-paddocks-picnic-riesling-2023-case-6-x-75cl
Two Paddocks Picnic Riesling 2023 (Case 6 x 75cl)

Case price equivalent to £25 per bottle

Two Paddocks Picnic Riesling

Region: Central Otago, New Zealand

Vintage: 2023

Bottle size: 6 x 75cl

Grape: Riesling

ABV: 12.5%

Floral citrus notes, blossom spice and lime, strong mineral drive, zesty and vibrant.
