Deep dark purple in colour, this beautiful Saint-Émilion wine has a complex bouquet of dark berries, tobacco and lightly toasted spices. Intense flavours of ripe fruit are abundant on the palate, with smooth and delicate tannins. Excellent for drinking immediately or laying down for 5 to 10 years.

The 10 hectares of vineyards lie on flatter ground, with soils of sand, loam and clay. They are treated with a ‘zero residue’ policy, which prohibits the use of herbicides. The good drainage and looser soils produce a lighter style of Bordeaux that matures quickly. Fermentation takes place in the traditional concrete tanks with four to five weeks’ maceration and four days of frequent remontage. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak: roughly one third in new casks and two thirds in casks which are one to two years old.

Château Tour de Capet lies in the south of Saint-Émilion, near Saint-Hippolyte, just below its sister estate Château Capet-Guillier. Since 2009 the property has been run by Antoine Moueix Propriétés, a producer with over a century’s experience on the Right Bank of Bordeaux. The wine is made by Christophe Grenier and benefits from the immense experience of the renowned consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt.
